I have so many memories I don't even know where to begin. There was never a dull moment around Grandpa Smithers. He had such an amazing sense of humor. Always cracking jokes and loved making people laugh. He had such a kind and caring soul. I remember family get together's and barbecues. They were always so much fun. Especially with the story of him and his brothers only having 1 pair of overalls to share. So they only had to go to school 1 day a week. LOL. Oh and we can't forget his love for animals. I now have a little mini farm started and whenever I get a new animal my dad will always say "you are just like your grandfather and mother!" I wouldn't want it any other way! You were an amazing man Grandpa. Fly high and watch over all of us! I love you!

Don was one if not the most unique people I have ever met and a absolute joy to be around. Spending a day with Don would probably go further to treating a person's depression than modern medicine......At least for the time you were with him. I remember him as a young kid stopping by the house for lunch or a non work related chore that my late father roped him into always with a smile on his face and a funny story to share. I also worked with Don several summers at New Channels and remember something he said to me some 30 years ago. He told me one day that when he left this world all he wanted was to be remembered as a good worker. Well, he was the hardest worker I have ever known and approached his work as he approached life...With pride and a smile on his face. Despite his hard work ethic and working through lunch regularly us young guys practically used to fight over who was going to be the one to work with him on any given day knowing you were going to have to bust your butt.......At least until 3 o'clock break!
It was an absolute privilege to know him and I am yet to meet another human being like him. Rest in peace brother.
My thoughts and prayers are with Brenda and the kids as well during this difficult stretch.
