Jane was born on July 10, 1932 in Oklahoma City to William Henry Atkinson and Martha Ellen Atkinson.
Jane spent most of her life in Texas City, Texas, while having lived 5 years in Dallas, Texas and 5 years in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology.
Jane lived a rich, full life in her community, which was her passion, along with traveling. She was a business owner for over 50 years, that included Tot-To-Teen, Merle Norman Cosmetics and Jane’s Etc. Jane was not only a business owner that retired at 80, but also a very active community member. She received numerous awards from Texas City in recognition of her philanthropy and support of the community, as well as multiple awards from Merle Norman Cosmetics.
She worked with the local Alcohol Drug Abuse Women’s Center, was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, worked with Crime Stoppers, was also the Board for the Salvation Army, and worked with the United Way. She also was a member of the Texas City LaMarque Chamber of Commerce and a member of Beta Sigma Phi group.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Allen Baucum, Brother Walter, father William and mother Martha.
She is survived by her son David William of Colleyville, Texas, and daughter Cindy of Catoosa Oklahoma.
A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Burial Park, 6001 N.W. Grand Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73118.
Jane lived by her famous saying, “Nothing is accomplished without enthusiasm”.
