Louis George Zimmer, 94, of Edmond passed from this life on April 6, 2021. Services have been entrusted to the care of Memorial Park Funeral Home and a celebration of Louis’s life will be held in his long time Edmond home. Louis was born on Nov. 30, 1926 in Marseilles, IL to Joseph and Irene (Lynes) Zimmer. He graduated from East Moline High School and enlisted in the US Navy. Louis served as a refrigeration specialist aboard a ship during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, Louis was accepted to Augusta University where he majored in Geology. He later obtained his Master’s Degree from the University of Iowa.
In the late 1940’s Louis married JoAnne Erb and they raised four wonderful children together. After graduation Louis and family relocated to Wichita, Kansas and worked for Ohio Oil Company. Shortly after, he relocated to the Oklahoma City area, worked in the oil industry and eventually would become a partner with Stew Magaw. Together they formed, Magaw and Zimmer Petroleum Geologists. He retired in 2010 and spent the next six years caring for JoAnne, until her passing in 2016. Louis was blessed with good health and a sharp mind. He remained living independently until his passing.
Louis Zimmer was a honest man who loved his wife and family. He enjoyed raising horses, traveling to Europe with JoAnne, reading, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. He was a long-time resident of Tall Oaks, where he and Jo Anne built their dream home and lived for many years. Louis Zimmer was a loving husband, a caring father, a proud grandfather, a skilled geologist, and a trusted friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his soulmate JoAnne Zimmer; his son Mark Zimmer; and two siblings: Norbert and Mary. He is survived by his three sons: Paul E. Zimmer and wife Margie, Glen J. Zimmer and wife Jill, and Matthew S. Zimmer; 11 grandchildren: Brian Zimmer, Drew Zimmer, Katherine Cambier, Callen Zimmer, Alyssa Zimmer, Raven Zimmer, Addison Zimmer, Keelie Zimmer, Landon Zimmer, Bailey Bickerstaff and Chad Dulin. He is also survived by six great grandchildren and numerous other beloved family members and friends.
