Steven’s life will be remembered by his humorous spirit and dedication to God, family, and his country.
He was born on June 2, 1953 to Johnny and Rosaline Cowns and grew up on the south side of Oklahoma City amongst his extended family. He cherished many days with his Grandmother, Julia Martinez, and many other cousins, aunts, and uncles. He attended Capital Hill High School and after enlisted to the US Army and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division.
He enjoyed a 20-year career with the US Army. His military service afforded him opportunity to visit Africa, the Middle-East, Europe and across the US. He served in Desert Storm/Desert Shield with Charlie Company and retired in 2004 as Staff Sergeant.
After retirement, Steven enjoyed his life with Susan, his wife, 5 children and 10 grandchildren. The last years of his life were spent amongst his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Cowns, of Edmond and five devoted children; Nicole Caldwell and husband, Kevin Caldwell, of Edmond, Sarah Harries and husband, James Harries, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Andrew Cowns of Edmond, Joseph Cowns of Edmond, and Daniel Cowns of New York City; ten grandchildren; Kaija, Malaki, Karyss, Azaryah, Thaddeus, and Wyatt Kinkade Caldwell, Ricky McCallon, Gavin and Aiden Harries and Averly Cowns; parents Johnny and Betty Cowns of Oklahoma City; and four brothers Eric, Ricky, Randy, and Timmy Cowns; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His mother, Rosaline Martinez Cowns, precedes him in death.
