A visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25th at Crosspoint Church, 215 3rd Street NW Waverly, Iowa, followed by a memorial service starting at 6:00 p.m. This service will also be live streamed from the church.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Engelbrecht Farm, 22870 130th Ave. Davenport, Iowa on Saturday, June 26th starting at 5:00 p.m.
The following Tuesday, June 29th, there will be a “Celebration of Life” from 6-9:00 p.m. at the Vox Vineyard, 19310 NW Farley Hampton Road #3 Kansas City, Missouri. This is the vineyard that Loren meticulously enjoyed taking care of during his retirement. There will be a toast for Loren at sunset.
Loren passed away at Olathe Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to everyone he knew.
Loren was born on June 8, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa to Wilbert John and Leona Ann (Illian) Engelbrecht. He graduated from North Scott High School in Eldridge, Iowa. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Science at Iowa State University. Loren met the love of his life, Dianna Kay Marts, and they married on June 9, 1968 in Hampton, Iowa. Together they raised their two sons Michael and Matthew.
He owned his own dairy farm and later started a vineyard and winery. He and his wife owned and operated Farm House B&B for 17 years. He served and dedicated himself in many organizations: 4-H member and Leader, Iowa State University Dairy Science Club, ISU Dairy Science Judging Team, Future Farmers, Member, ISU Alumni Association, Iowa Holstein Association, National Holstein Association, Delegate to National Holstein Association, Minnesota Grape Growers Association, Iowa Wine Growers Association and as an Iowa Wine Trail Member. He was also involved with Fredericksburg Economic Development, Chickasaw County Tourism, Chickasaw County School Preservation Foundation, Silos and Smokestacks, Iowa Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers Association, Swiss Valley Farms Cooperative.
Loren attended Crosspoint Church in Waverly, Iowa and Westside Family Church in Lenexa, Kansas. Loren and Dianna, hosted many Foreign Exchange Students in their home. They always had their doors opened for friends and relatives.
Loren enjoyed spending time with his family. Nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and spending time with their families. He was an avid Iowa State football and basketball fan. His most treasured times were on the farm.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents Wilbert and Leona Engelbrecht, and his nephew, Kurt Engelbrecht. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dianna Engelbrecht of Olathe, Kansas, and two sons, Michael Lee Engelbrecht and his wife Christina of Hermiston, Oregon, and Matthew James Engelbrecht and his wife Katrina of Oberursel, Germany. Left behind to cherish his memory are his six grandchildren: Noah Engelbrecht and his fiancé Morgan Jarding, Rebecca Engelbrecht, Leah Engelbrecht, Mara Engelbrecht, Rachel Engelbrecht and Kelsey Engelbrecht. Loren is also survived by his three brothers Dean Engelbrecht and his wife Pam, of Davenport, Iowa, Arlan Engelbrecht and his wife Diana, of Eldridge, Iowa and Brian Engelbrecht of Eldridge, Iowa.
