January 31, 1944 – November 28, 2019
Ellen Bauer, of Old Saybrook, peacefully passed away on November 28, 2019 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's and dementia.
She was born on January 31, 1944, in Germany, the daughter of Adam and Emma (Kaufmann) Kramer.
Ellen and her parents immigrated to New Jersey to start a new life and pursue the "American Dream". Ellen excelled academically and met the love of her life, Ernie, in high school. Ellen and Ernie moved to Old Saybrook with their two children and enjoyed an active life of traveling, camping, road trips and their beach community. Ellen was an incredible homemaker and philanthropist. Her and Ernie volunteered at the Mystic Seaport, Toys for Tots and their church. Ellen and Ernie would often be seen in their iconic Volkswagon camper hitting the road. One of their favorite trips was driving to Alaska and visiting all of the National Parks. Ernie and Ellen loved to go camping in the Adirondacks and have many memories of hiking and canoeing with their beloved son.
Driving was also one of her favorite past times, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. She also walked Knollwood Beach daily, scouring the sand for seaglass. Ernie and Ellen would thinking nothing of going to Vermont for the day or Maine for an overnight trip.
Ellen had a quick wit and incredible sense of humor; her and granddaughter were constantly laughing together. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, reading, and making home made Christmas cards.
Ellen and Ernie had just recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. When Ellen got increasingly sick, Ernie never left her side. They love each other dearly and are an inspiration to us all.
Ellen is survived by her husband Ernest P. Bauer; children Erich Adam Bauer and his fiancée Sacha Hancock of Salem, OR, and Karen Pulaski of Boulder City, NV; grandchildren Tosh Urbowicz and her husband Keith, Forrest Perkins, August and Ansel Pulaski; and great grandson Beckett Urbowicz.

I haven't seen or spoke to Ellen in a few years, We go all the back to high school, Things happen and you don't understand why, they just happen. I would catch and see pieces of her life during that time. I found out she was very ill and I knew we would never connect again and talk. Now all the years of doing things, spending every New Year together, trips, places, enjoying each other, cooking, laughing, phone calls, talking about our kids and our heartaches at times just keep flashing with all the happy times together. One day we will meet and then maybe ..... Hugs go up to you Ellen, you were always in my memories, a friendship that we had just doesn't stop, even if we didn't see each other. Fly High Ellen 🐚🐚 That is how I will remember you with all the happy things together.💔 🐚 My thoughts and prayers go out to Ernie and Tosh and family. Ellen is at peace and out of pain making friends with many angels.... The Heavens got a beautiful Angel.. God Bless
