STILLWATER –Anna Glenice Hatt Thurston passed peacefully on September 14, 2018. Anna was born in Lubec, August 10, 1920, a daughter of Herman E. Hatt and Bernice Lingley Hatt Seeley. At the age of 9, her mother married her step father, Leslie L. Seeley.
Anna attended school in Bar Harbor and graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1938. After graduating, she worked in Hartford, CT at the Travelers Insurance Company. In 1947, Anna returned to Maine, met and married Ora Thurston, Jr. in Old Town. Anna worked as the office secretary and cafeteria assistant at the Stillwater Elementary School. She was an active and very involved member of the Stillwater Federated Church where she was financial secretary, a trustee, deaconess, and worked on numerous committees. Anna was a past president of the Annie Mathews Women’s Society, a member of the Stillwater Friendship Club, and the Old Town Senior Citizens.
Surviving are daughter, Carole Ann Gardner, grandson, Michael and his wife, Brenda, and great grandchildren, Darin and Logan; granddaughter, Tracy and husband, Steve St. Hilaire, and great grandchildren, Jared and Sarina; daughter, Lois Elaine Madden and husband, Stephen, grandson, Christopher and wife, Kassidy, great grandchildren, Dylan, Colin and Haylie, grandson, Corey and wife, Gail, great grandchildren, Brandon, Bryson and Taylor, granddaughter, Angela McDunnah and husband, Geoff, and great grandson, Stephen; grandson, John Sibley, Jr. and wife, Dana, great granddaughters, Abby and Hannah; granddaughter, Tanya and fiancé, Steve Blake and his children, Amiyah and Bria; son-in-law, John Sibley, Sr. and his wife, Kim. She also leaves two sisters, Rosemond Walls and husband, Norman, and Barbara Baker; as well as two sisters-in-law, June Stafford and Janet Thurston, in addition to many special friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Anna was predeceased by her husband; her youngest daughter, Brenda; three sisters, Arnona, Rosella and Patricia; and a son-in-law, Stephen Gardner.
A memorial service will at 11 am, Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Stillwater Federated Church, 335 Bennoch Rd, Old Town, with interment following at Lawndale Cemetery, after which family and friends are invited back to the church for a light luncheon provided by the Annie Mathews Women’s Society.
