Harold Fick was born in Adair, Iowa, to Edwin and Susie Fick where he grew up on their 150-acre farm with his older siblings Paul and Dorothy. He graduated from Adair High School before he served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan from 1946 to 1947. He was involved in building infrastructure for the U.S. military during his stay in Japan.
After his military tour, he moved to Omaha and became involved in the Wesleyan youth group at the First United Methodist Church. It was there that he met Marilyn Carnes. They married on July 30, 1955. Their 4 children were born between 1958 and 1966 – Karen, Dianne, Janet and David. He and Marilyn were active members of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Harold worked on his bachelor’s degree as a non-traditional student and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a business degree. He worked as a buyer for the University of Nebraska Medical Center for 26 years.
Harold enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, and gardening. He made thousands of poppies used for American Legion Auxiliary fund raisers. He enjoyed sports and was an especially big fan of Cornhusker football and the Kansas City Royals. Much to Marilyn’s chagrin, he also enjoyed smoking his pipe. We will miss this quiet, reliable and funny man who was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
