She was born on February 7, 1925 in Harpersfield, New York, the daughter of the late Leslie and LuLa (Goss) McLean. On July 24, 1969, Laura married Guy Stanton in Hartwick, New York. They celebrated 23 years of marriage until Guy’s passing in 1993.
Laura had a very strong and passionate faith in God. Her calling in life was to reach out and spread the gospel to young children and help them to understand God’s teachings. Through her work with the Child Evangelism Fellowship, Inc., she traveled all over the area teaching the gospel to and effecting hundreds of children through Good News Clubs and various other spiritual activities related to CEF. Her and her husband, Guy, also spent several summers as counselors and leaders at the Mid-State Baptist Camp in North Blenheim, New York. She was a devote member of the East Worcester Baptist Church.
When she had some free time to herself, she enjoyed crocheting and was a very accomplished pianist. But the thing she loved most was the time she got to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Laura is survived by her children, Dawn Southern of Raleigh, North Carolina, James Dean, and his wife Midge, of Sidney, Lucy Gonzalez, and her husband Miguel, of Boynton Beach, Florida, Larry Dean, and his wife Donna, of Okeechobee, Florida, and Doreen M. Dean of Milford.
She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Laura was predeceased by her sister, Loretta McLean, and her first husband, Harold W. Dean.
