He was born on August 21, 1925 in Oneonta the son of Henry and Eloise (Congdon) Quackenbush. He married Helen Mead on February 14, 1944 in Oneonta.
Les served in the US Army during World War II.
For a period of 30 years, retiring in 1984, he was a machinist for ECD Bendix.
Les was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He enjoyed woodworking, as wells as being a wrestling fan.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen T. Quackenbush of Oneonta; his daughters, Linda Carr and her companion, Peter Krebs of Goodyear Lake, and Debbie Lipitz and her husband, Gary of Chenango Bridge; his grandchildren, Teresa Webster, Nicole Krajnyk, Adam Lipitz, and eight great grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother, Henry Quackenbush and his wife Carol of Oneonta, and a sister, Janet Bobnick of Richfield Springs, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Scanlon.
A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:15 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Walnut St. Oneonta, NY, with the Rev. Scott Vanderveer, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, with military honors accorded by the US Army Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 3 to 5 pm, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home at which time the family will be in attendance.
