William “Bud” Kahlanbeck, age 91 of Ontario, passed away on April 9, 2018 at his home in Ontario, California. He was born May 8, 1926 to Henry and Julia Kahlanbeck in Macomb, Michigan. The family moved to Southern California when he was 4 years old and he lived in the Pomona/Ontario area for more than 60 years.
Bud worked as a truck driver for many years, retiring as a Plant Manager in 1979. He and his wife, Shirley, spent many years traveling in their trailer to the East Coast, Canada, and the Oregon coast. He was a proud Veteran of the US Navy during WWII. He enlisted at 17, and served on the destroyer, USS Edwards (DD619). In later years, he served as President of the USS Edwards Ship Association.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of almost 60 years; daughters, Chris, and her husband Steve Bennett of Upland, Cathy, and her husband Mel Roles of Upland; three grandsons, Evan Bennett and his wife April, Mike Bennett and his wife Desiree and Adam Roles; two great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Emily Bennett; two great-grandsons, Kahlan and Michael Bennett.
Services will be held on Monday April 16th at Bellevue Memorial Park, North Chapel, 1240 W. G Street, Ontario, CA at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National WWII museum or to Visiting Nurses Association.
