September 1, 1934 – January 5, 2020
Leonard (Lenny) DeSouza born on September 1, 1934 in Trelawny, Jamaica died on January 5, 2020. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He survived his wife of 53 years, Kathleen who moved on to glory August 13, 2018. He leaves five adult children Errolyn, Paul (Nadine), Elizabeth (Mark), Peter and Leonardeen, the grandchildren that he adored, Danielle, Amanda, Paul Jr., Veronica, Marcus, Marylin, Ansen, Madeleine and Daniel, were his pride, his siblings Imogene, Gwendolyn, Renford, and Lester and many nieces and nephews including Andene (Roland) of Oveido, FL and Sandra (Desmond) of Houston, TX. He also leaves his companion, Enid Wright of Orlando, FL, who willingly choose to take care of Lenny in the last year and a half of his life.
Lenny was a very hard working, and determined man. He had a big, giving and compassionate heart that was seen by very few as he hid it behind a very tough exterior. He categorized himself as a “Hard Christian”. Lenny always worked with his hands and labored for many years as a truck driver and a mechanic in New York. Lenny was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 445. When he and Kathleen moved to Florida in 1991, he became a CDL Examiner for the state of Florida, which was a great achievement for Lenny. He was so proud when he went to work as an instructor for Grey Line Bus Company.
Any one that knew Lenny knew how much he loved his homeland of Jamaica and growing fruits and vegetables in his yard. Lenny would spend hours in the yard even if it was to just sit with a drink in his hand and watch it all grow. As his produce would grow in abundance, he would give it away as a token of appreciation and love. Lenny will be missed as he had such a personality where he could not be easily forgotten. God has called him home where he can now watch the heavenly gardens grow.
