Agnes May Belanger, 96, passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on February 13, 2019. She was born in Boston on February 21, 1922, the oldest child of Raymond E. and Nellie May (Rose) Dyer. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Leo Belanger, and her brother, William K. Dyer.
She attended Wellfleet schools, and after high school earned a secretarial certificate at Burdett College in Boston. During World War II, she worked for the government in Washington, D.C. She returned home to Wellfleet near the end of the war, where she met her husband, Leo, at Camp Wellfleet.
Agnes and Leo founded PJ's Dari-Burger (named for their daughters) in 1964, and served thou-sands of happy customers until 1972, when they sold the business. She worked for New England Telephone (now Verizon) for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. After retiring, she enjoyed spending her winters in warmer climes for many years, first in Arizona, and then in Florida.
She was always keeping her hands busy, whether it was in her vegetable garden, baking, creating handcrafted gifts, braiding rugs, or emailing family and friends. Her special love of watching her
birds and of course the Red Sox will always be remembered.
Agnes is survived by her brother, Warren F. Dyer, and sister, Katherine L. Tesson; her children Parker T. Boggs and wife Carolyn, Judith A. Clisby, and Pauline A. Sargeant and husband Rob-ert; grandchildren Rebecca M. Boyd, Kevin B. Boyd, Lauren A. Sargeant, Cynthia R. Woodall, and Willson T. Holliday; great grandchildren Isabella, Olivia, Ava, Nadia, Abigail, Eliana, Jen-nifer, Aaron, Marcus, Alex, and Cate; great-great granddaughter Kyra; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers who assisted Agnes both recently and over the past few years, including her loving nieces and nephews; her wonderful in-home caregivers; the staff at The Terraces; and VNA of Cape Cod Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to the Wellfleet Methodist Church.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
