Herbert R. Wieboldt
August 25, 1927 – July 5, 2019
Herbert R. (Herb) Wieboldt, resident of Harwich Port, MA, formerly of East Dennis, MA and Chatham, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 4th, at the age of 91, at home.
Born in 1927, to Herman and Emma Wieboldt in Summit, NJ; he attended Summit High School where he was a member of the baseball and soccer teams. He then attended Brown University where he played soccer and was president of the student athletic association. His college years were interrupted twice with service in the US Army (WWII and Korea). He was stationed in Japan for part of his Army service. After graduating from Brown University, Herb worked at the Howard Savings Bank before joining NJ Bell Telephone, where he was a manager in the Plainfield and Newark offices. It was at NJ Bell where he met Cynthia, his wife of 62 years.
Herb and Cynthia settled in the Chatham, NJ, where they raised their children Kristine and Pete. He was a longtime Little League coach and volunteer for town events such as Fishawack Day and Fourth of July celebrations. Herb and Cynthia were both avid paddle tennis players and golfers which they enjoyed for many years.
In 1991, Herb and Cynthia left NJ and moved to East Dennis, a beloved location where they had enjoyed many years of wonderful summer vacations and family fun. Herb was active at the Church of the Holy Spirit, in Orleans, where he was an usher, and served on committees, various ministries and social events. In 2015, Herb and Cynthia moved to Heatherwood in Yarmouth Port. A devoted Red Sox fan since childhood, he rarely missed a game.
Herb was predeceased by his wife, Cynthia, on May 26, 2019. He will be sadly missed by his children, Kristine and Peter, and their spouses, Arnaldo and Stephanie, his grandchildren, Peter, Kristina, Francesca, Ben and Lizzie, his great-grandchildren, Hutch and Jude and his sister Ann. His brother, Fred and his sister, Marge, also predeceased him.
