ORLEANS — Officer Paul Hamilton of the Braintree Police Department, 44, passed away Thursday, April 4th, 2019 after a brief illness. He was a beloved husband, father, son, nephew and friend. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Paul’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His humor, smile and personality brought so much joy to his family, friends and coworkers.

Paul grew up in Orleans attending Nausest High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University. He was especially fond of boating with his family all over New England and the National Seashore. He was a member of the Metropolitan Yacht Club.

During his tenure as a police officer, Hamilton was the recipient of numerous commendations, including two lifesaving medals. Officer Hamilton along with his five brother officers received the State’s highest award, the Hanna Medal of Honor for the officer involved shooting in Braintree. Paul also received the Braintree Police Department Medal of Valor Award, The Distinguished Dana Award, the Massachusetts Police Association Medal of Valor and the Massachusetts Coalition of Police Presidential Award. He was very proud to serve multiple communities as a Police Officer.

Paul is survived by his wife, Lindsey Hamilton, two children Victoria and Emily and his mother, Sheila Hamilton and the late Bruce Hamilton of Orleans, MA.

A Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, April 11th at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday April 12th at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 625 Main Street, Chatham, MA.

My deepest condolences to Paul’s family for this great loss. I knew Paul from high school, but had lost touch with him until I ran into him at the Hingham Shipyard recently. He came right over to my table and introduced me to his two adorable daughters. Even though it had been 25 years since I’d seen him last, it felt like no time had passed at all. He was still the same friendly, funny, awesome tall Paul I’d remembered, and just like that we were friends again. That moment seems far more significant now. I feel so fortunate that I was able to see him one last time and have a fresh memory to carry with me. He will be deeply missed by many.
