A funeral service will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church, 101 Pine Lakes Parkway, Palm Coast, with the Rev. William Douthwaite, III, officiating. Prior to the funeral service, a viewing will be held from 11:00 – 12 p.m. in the chapel at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Craig Flagler Palm Cemetery, in Palm Coast, with her final resting place to be Volusia Memorial Park Mausoleum in Daytona Beach.
Dora Burger was born January 18, 1924, in Dwight, Illinois, daughter of Gottfried and Lucy (Sielaff) Burger. Dora was an artist with a decal company. She married Charles Raymond Fowler on January 26, 1957, at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois. Dora and Ray were married 61 years.
Dora and Ray lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, until they retired in 1982, at which time they moved to Palm Coast, Florida. Dora was one of the founding members of the Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church and served on the Women’s Group Altar Guild. She volunteered for the Aid Association for Lutherans and for the blind. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Ray, and their children, Paul (Mary) Fowler and Anita Michael. Also surviving are Dora’s three grandchildren, Christina (Joseph) Cullen, Laura (Mike) Holder, and Joshua Fowler, all of whom are children of Paul and Mary Fowler.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Erich, Edward, and Robert Burger; and five sisters, Ethel Baer, Gertrude Burger, Anita Burger, Ruth Oren, and Adela Burger.
