John “Jay” Clinton Best, age 84, of Palm Coast, FL died on July 5, 2014 in the Florida Hospital Hospice Center in Palm Coast. He rejoined his 9 siblings after a 4 month battle with brain cancer and pneumonia. A native of Duquesne, PA he resided in Palm Coast since 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Electronic Technician from 1951 to 1957. He then served as a Computer / Electronic Technician for IBM where he worked in Madison, WI from 1957-1962, Appalachian, NY from 1962-1966, Cape Canaveral, FL from 1966-1973 and Manassas, VA from 1973-1987. His most memorable work experience was working with NASA during the Apollo and Sky Lab Programs. He was a very active member of the Palm Coast Methodist Church serving as President of the Men’s Club, President of the Bowling League, usher and assisted in many of the Men’s Club activities. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Ann Best, son Jeffery Best & wife Julie of Waveland, MS and daughter Lori Mastrostefano & husband Tony of Manassas, VA, and granddaughter Alexa Mastrostefano of Alexandria, VA. Services will be held at Volusia Memorial Funeral home, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 10am-11am with the Funeral Service to follow at 11am. In lieu of Flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
