Liborio Perez Gorritz

February 28, 1921January 8, 2021

Mr. Liborio Perez-Gorritz was born on October 18, 1920 in Comerio, Puerto Rico and was surrounded by many family members who supported and raised him as he was an orphan.

Loborio had a dream to join the U.S. Army and knew an education was key, so he walked two miles barefoot to and from school with a passion for learning, along with a heart to serve his country as his motivation.

Eager to serve, Liborio attempted to enlist numerous times, but was too young. However, his tenacity paid off and he joined the Army on January 16, 1941. Sergeant Liborio Perez-Gorritz served his country faithfully during the WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars; he retired as a Staff Sergeant rank of E-6 on June 30, 1970.

His other precious dream occurred when he married the beautiful love of his life, Carmen Elsie Perez Luna in 1942. After his military retirement he and Elsie moved to his beloved Puerto Rico where they started a successful beauty salon and a deli shop.

In 1982 Sergeant Perez-Gorritz fully retired and moved to Florida to be near the children and grandchildren and in 1985 they moved to Ormond Beach, Florida. Carmen Elsie Perez Luna was called to rest with the Lord in 2007. Liborio is the proud father of five sons, nineteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

At 100 years old, he is a true servant leader and his heart continues to stand ready, willing, and able to take up arms in defense of his country.

Liborio Perez-Gorritz is survived by his children; Noel (Mary) Perez, Josue (Eleanor) Perez, Edwin (Cathy) Perez; and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Carmen Elsie Perez; and two sons, Daniel Perez and Roberto Perez.

A visitation for Liborio will be held Friday, January 15, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Daytona Beach with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 AM. A burial with military honors will occur after the services at 12:45 PM at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, FL.

I loved Liborio’s white hair and big smile and his accent. I loved his testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I loved his love of our country and his service to it and his fire for freedom. I love the great family he raised each one of them.

Love the Boyd Family
