Millie A Philp

Millie Philp died the morning of July 8, 2018 in Gallup, NM with her loving family in attendance. She was 91. She was born Armelia Ann Clarkson in Muncie, IN to Augusta (Alexander) Clarkson and Thomas Clarkson. Millie graduated from Madison Township High School in Wakarusa, IN. She was always happy to share stories of growing up on the farm with her nine other brothers and sisters and their tightly knit family unit. She is preceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward C Philp whom she met in South Bend, IN. Millie retired from New York State Employment after being employed at the State Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She and Edward retired to Palm Coast in 1988. She pursued and perfected many hobbies, including sewing, crafting, and crocheting and doing puzzles. She became an accomplished quilter. Millie also enjoyed traveling, stargazing and watching Star Trek. She took enormous pride in her children and family; always sacrificing for and encouraging them in life with her easy smile and sunny disposition. Millie was the happiest when surrounded by her family. She is survived by her five sons, Edward Jr., Jacksonville, FL, Dudley, NY,NY, Valmor, Westchester, NY, Kelvin, Long Island, NY, Steven, Las Vegas, NV and daughter Marlene and her husband Dominick of Gallup, NM. Millie had 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Survivors also include sisters, Jeanette Lue, South Bend, IN, Peaches Morris, La Porte, IN, Jean Vaughn, Los Angeles, CA, Dorothy Parchman, South Bend, IN, Lucretia Brown, Lexington, SC and one brother, Chester Holley Sterling, Detroit, MI. She was also predeceased by her parents Augusta & Thomas Clarkson, stepfather, Herberry Holly, sisters, Alberta Dempsey and Donnie Jackson, brother, Thomas Clarkson Jr. and grandson Christopher Aretino. Millie will be interred at Volusia Memorial Park in Ormond Beach, FL on July 17, 2018.Visitation will be at 10:00 am and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am.
