With his family by his side, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Edward (Blayne) McCrum on May 16, 2020 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital after a brief illness. Blayne leaves behind his loving wife Joan (Duffy) of 68 years. He was our hero, a man who had the biggest heart and was a true family man. Predeceased by his parents Esther Mary Brock and Norris Harrison McCrum and his sister Gloria Finch. He leaves behind his brother Keevan McCrum (late June) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Devoted Dad to his 3 daughters Deanna McDonald (Hugh), Paula Quaile (Tim), Lisha McCrum (Gary Farnsworth). Cherished “Poppa” to his grandchildren Vicki, David (Michelle), Matthew (Jenn), Tyler (Natalie), Brittany (Broc), Brianna, and to his great-grandchildren Connor, Sara, Chelsea, Emma, Alex, Kaitlyn, Kimberly, Julia, Logan and Bennett.
Blayne was born in Sweetsburg, Quebec and the family eventually moved to Toronto where he met his wife Joan and they married in 1952. Blayne started working for Bell Canada at the young age of 20. After moving his family to Ottawa in 1969 he continued working up until his retirement. Soon after retiring, he enjoyed travelling to the US for Telecommunications contracts, always bringing his wife Joan with him.
He made many friends along the way. Always so cheerful, loved meeting people and loved life. Blayne will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Osgoode Care Center and the nurses and doctors at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their compassionate care for our Father. In memory of Blayne, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to COVID19.
