Born in Verdun, Québec to a pure Québécoise and a recent Irish immigrant, Victor Edward Gannon, born August 14th 1938, learned, lived and grew up with many cousins and friends. A self-starter and hard worker, he started with a paper route and retired from some of the highest positions in Canada. Victor loved to work; it was truly a passion for him. His family, however, was his truest passion and his reason for being. He loved each one of us so intensely that it sometimes made us want to wiggle out of his embrace; but, even with that, we always returned for more of him -- more comfort, more love, more advice, more Victor.

One of his greatest joys was seeing and immersing himself in the world; he travelled everywhere, from Eastern and Western Europe, to South America, Africa, Egypt, the Middle East, and Asia. Along with hundreds of family members and friends around the globe, Victor leaves behind his wife of over 48 years, Andrée Hébert, his daughter Michèle, and his “favourite" son-in-law André Goldenberg. His absence is unbearable; but remembering his laughter, his love of play and adventure, his generosity, the twinkle in his eyes, the dimple he could not hide, and his constant presence, even now, will help us all move forward without forgetting our past.

We wish we could give Victor the send-off he deserves and get to see each other, hug and reminisce. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a very small private ceremony will instead be held on Saturday February 27, 2021 at 10:00am. For all the family members and friends we wish could be in attendance, and who will be dearly missed, both a live and archived online video stream will be available at the following link: https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/24748. In addition, we will be creating a memorial book with pictures and testimonials, for the family; we would be grateful for your addition, through the McEvoy-Shields website, of any thoughts, memories or stories you would like to share, in this celebration of our husband-daddy-father-in-law’s life. Thank you for your love and support.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, in Victor's honour, at the link below.
