

Ida Margaret Thomas, known to all as Margaret, age 94, died on Friday, January 18th, 2019 at AdventHealth Orlando (formerly Orlando South Hospital) surrounded by family, friends and her Pastor. From her birth in Sumter, South Carolina, on April 15th, 1924, to her death on Friday she nourished everyone around her with love, faith, and kindness. Margaret was born at her parent’s home in Sumpter and was the youngest of five siblings. Through a double date organized by Margaret’s eldest brother, Miller, she met the love of her life, George William Thomas. After a year and half filled with love letters and flowers, the couple was married by Miller on December 29th, 1951. The couple moved around due to George’s work in the ministry and finally settled in Orlando, Florida in 1967. “Miss Margaret”, as she was known to her co-workers, lead a successful 40-year career with Xerox and SunTrust Bank as a bookkeeper before finally retiring in 2016. Margaret’s favorite retirement activities included soaking up the Florida sunshine on her front porch swing, reading her daily devotional with her breakfast, attending Young at Heart at Dover Shores Baptist Church, and spending time with her family and many friends.
Left to honor and remember her love are her two children, Greg and Emily, six grandchildren, Heidi, Julie, Valerie, Cyrus, Justin, Melissa, five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Ella, Brendan, Arik, and many nieces and nephews. Margaret will be remembered as a warm, shining light to all who had the blessing of knowing her and her presence will be greatly missed.
