On December 12, 1940 Serge was born in Port au Prince, Haiti to Bertrand Prepetit and Julienne.
Serge attended the University of Port-au-Prince Haiti and majored in bookkeeping and accounting.
Serge emigrated to the United States of America in 1968; met and married his wife of 51 years, ]Marie Carmel Emmanuel in 1969; and proceeded to have five children: son Ralphael (deceased), son Sidney (Roseanne), son Serge, Jr. (Mara), son Stephen, and daughter Melissa; along with five grandchildren: Liam, Naomi, Regan, Carmine and Alexis. Serge became a United States Citizen in 1994 and ever since was enthralled with politics and the nuances that encompass democracy; he spent many days and nights watching the news, CNN, Larry King Live, MSNBC etc.
Serge spent over 30 years working on Wall Street for a small brokerage firm, Asiel & Co.; from which he retired at the age of 62.
Serge was known for his love of music, his passion for politics and his enthusiasm for red wine and sweets. There was not a pie he wouldn’t eat and always had a chocolate bar hidden in a drawer for anyone in need. Among other things Serge had an affinity for horticulture. One of his final acts was to plant a mango tree in his backyard and they have since started to bloom. Serge absolutely loved to live life anytime you stopped by there would be either music playing along with a delicious beverage from his bar; or an in depth discussion on current events and please believe you would leave knowing his point of view on the subject at hand.
The last few years of Serge’s life was filled with multiple hospitalizations and a multitude of health issues and yet he fought each and every day to get his weight under control and his blood sugar regulated which he did successfully; that was Serge, anything he set his mind to do he accomplished it. The last day of his life before entering the hospital he was fortunate enough to spend time with his daughter, granddaughter, his wife before the Lord called him home to join his first born son, Ralphael.
We know there are many who want to say their goodbyes and show their respect for Serge, unfortunately due to COVID-19, for the safety of all concerned, it breaks our hearts but we must restrict those coming to the funeral to only immediate family and close friends who are completely well to comply with the 50% (60 people) capacity mandated by the CDC. We appreciate your support in this difficult decision. Please visit www.baldwinfairchildoviedo.com and offer condolences and take a moment to write a tribute.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 12pm with a funeral service to follow at 1pm.
