The eldest child of Peter Nimo and Agnes Soklinen, “Judy” was born in Bontoc Mountain Province, Philippines on January 25, 1949. Judy married Serafin “Sonny” deVera on September 23, 1972 and affectionately called each other “darl” (darling) for 48-years.
Judy is survived by her loving husband Sonny; her three daughters Gwen (Shane) Devera-Waden currently stationed at Fort Hood, TX, Kathy (Jeff McDermott) DeVera of Camarillo, CA, and Shirley (Tommy Menga) DeVera Menga of Oxnard, CA; five grandchildren: Kross, Santè, Landon, Aubrey, and Kai; three sisters: Joan (Paul) Abbe of Oxnard, CA, Jeannie Young of Baguio, PI, Joy Grace (Ernesto) Bautista of Phoenix, AZ, and the youngest brother Hercules (Aisa) Nimo of Bontoc, PI; she also has five half siblings: Perla Nimo, Presca Chilagan, Edward Nimo, Mary Nimo, and Ellen Lomeng. Judy graduated from the University of Philippines in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. After leaving Philippines in 1976, following Sonny’s U.S. Navy career, she has lived in the Point Mugu and Oxnard City along with part time in San Bernardino towards the end of her nursing career. Following a career of 33-years as a registered nurse, she successfully retired from Patton State Hospital in 2009. She had previously worked at Camarillo State Hospital, St. John’s Hospital, and Julian Convalescent Home Camarillo. Judy lived life to the fullest and was a social butterfly, enjoying life and being with family and friends. She loved to travel both local and abroad, entertain and party, played bingo, slots and card tables. Judy was always full of smiles and laughter reaching people in a deep and positive way. She was caring and a giving person.
