In Loving Memory of Reba “June” Learned 1930-2013

Pebble Beach ~ With her family by her side, June passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Born in Harrah, Oklahoma to Albert and Alia Mae Foster, June was the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. June married Virgil LaMoine Learned, Jr., affectionately known as “Pete”, in 1949 in Medford, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1982. Shortly after they married, they moved to San Diego where their only son, Douglas Alan, was born. June took pride in being secretary to numerous Generals in the US Army including Generals in Alaska, when the family moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1971, she was secretary to many Generals at Fort Ord. June was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, a chef and an avid gardener. June is survived by her son, Douglas Alan; his wife, Karen; two grandchildren, Stephanie Learned (Aaron) Pritchard and Douglas (Katrina) Learned, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Owen Eugene, Paige June and Aurora Grace and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Gary Grant for his excellent care and the nurses and caregivers at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel Hills for their loving and caring support towards June. Graveside services will be held this Wednesday, May 29 at 2:00 PM at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. Memorial contributions may be made in June’s name to the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, PO Box HH, Monterey, CA, 93942.
