Carolyn was born in Norton, VA to the late John Ervin Garland and Grace Beatrice Danner Garland.
Carolyn was an orginist and pianist for Lees-McRae College choir and Banner Elk Presbyterian Church choir. Prior to this she was the pianist for Cranberry High School, Banner Elk Grade School and Grandfather Home in North Carolina.
After graduating from Lees-McRae College with a Liberal Arts degree she became a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines in Miami where she met the love of her life John Howell Harnish "Jack", and moved to Key West, FL.
Carolyn was a member of Peace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Key West, where she also served as an Elder, circle leader and an alto in the choir. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and ceramics, baking pies and playing the piano of course.
Summer always entailed the family traveling for three months in Jack's RV to our nations national parks or to their cabin in Lake George, CO.
In 1980 the family moved to Melbourne, FL and purchased the property that is now known as Lake Washington Park. Carolyn still enjoyed visiting the park and viewing the sunset.

Survivors include daughter Donna Gale Harnish, Melbourne, FL, son Robert Howell Harnish, Vero Beach, FL, two brothers Dwight Garland, Cypress, TX, Johnny Garland, Boca Raton, FL.
Grandchildren RJ Ibarria, Brandy Farr, Tarilyn Kermani, Jack A.H. Fitts, Adriane Kermani, Jaclyn Kermani. Great Grandchildren RJ Jr.,Skylar, Kaylee, Alex, Trinity.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband John Howell Harnish "Jack" in 2006; sister Harriet Hopson; brother Herbert Garland; brother Theodore Hodges; son Jack A. Harnish; grandson Matthew J. Ibarria.
A visitation for Carolyn will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909. A celebration of life service will occur Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00 PM, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909. She wil be laid to rest with her husband John H. Harnish at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
