Conchita was born on October 14, 1930 in Santa Clara, Las Villas, Cuba. She was the oldest of three children of Francisco and Dolores Mendieta. She spent her early life in Manzanillo, Oriente, Cuba and later moved to Santiago de Cuba, Cuba with her family. After high school she spent one year in the United States, attending Penn Hall in Chambersburg, PA. Upon returning to Cuba she graduated with a teaching degree from Universidad de Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. After beginning her teaching career, she met her husband Tomas “Tommy” B. Puyans in Santiago and they were married in August 1956. Conchita and Tommy started their family in Cuba, and in April 1963 immigrated to the United States with their three young children Emy, Conchi and Tomas. They settled in Wayne, PA and soon welcomed their fourth child Katrine.
Conchita continued her teaching career at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, where she taught Spanish for 30 years until 1997, all the while raising her family. After retirement she enjoyed traveling to Europe and China with Tommy, following the Phillies, and spending much of her time enjoying her nine grandchildren.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years Tommy, their children Emelinda “Emy” (Jerry) O’Connell, Concepcion “Conchi” (Chip) Mulvany, Tomas (Patti) Puyans, Catalina “Katrine” (Tim) Wagner and nine grandchildren - Matthew (Ania) O’Connell, Michael O’Connell, Maggie O’Connell, Meghan Mulvany, Chipper Mulvany, Tommy Puyans, Tony Puyans, Brian Wagner and Scott Wagner.
