Born in Clarendon County, South Carolina in 1940, he was the son of the late Morris and Lorraine (nee Richbourg) Brailsford. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1958. Morris served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 – 1967, attaining the rank of Sergeant E-5. Throughout his life, his service in the Marine Corps was something he remained incredibly proud of and frequently spoke about. Morris truly loved the Marine Corps, his time in the service, and his country. The Marine Corps motto, “Semper Fi,” which is the fighting spirit of every Marine, was something Morris took to heart at a young age while in the service and it exemplified his character throughout his life.
Morris worked for The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority for 36 years and had a memorable and successful career. He was commonly regarded by those he interacted with for his kind and friendly spirit and compassion. He received numerous awards throughout his career for his dedication to his customers and position and was loved by his coworkers.
Morris was an avid lover of classic cars and enjoyed restoring them, building model cars, and rebuilding Porsche engines. He also enjoyed spending time reading the Bible and books on his favorite topics of history, politics, and health. His other interests included cultures, foreign languages, international foods, and having Sunday dinners with his children.
He was the beloved husband of 60 years of Lois D. (nee Rochester) Brailsford; loving father of Morris Brailsford, Brian Brailsford, Roslyn Brailsford, and Rodney Brailsford; and the dear grandfather of Christian Brailsford. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Turner, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
All who knew Morris were touched by his kindness, sense of humor, strength, and caring attitude. He was a spiritual person, who truly loved the Lord and will be deeply missed.
