passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021. He was born in Philadelphia on August 11, 1923 and was currently living in Audubon, Pa.
He attended Penn Charter and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He then served as a captain in the Navy during World War II. After the war he received his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
He worked the last 20 years of his career as a civilian in the navy focused primarily on hydrofoil hull design and control systems with several patents to his name.
Bill was active throughout his life, playing tennis and skiing until his eighties. He was an avid woodworker and bridge player. Bill was a glass half full person and had a wonderful can do attitude. He was a terrific Dad and Grandfather and thoroughly enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, leaving them with many happy memories. Bill was blessed to see his first great grandchild, Jack, born this past summer.
Bill was a wonderful husband and caregiver to his wife, Liz, who died of Parkinson’s in 2015. One of Bills favorite places was his cabin on Moose Pond in Denmark, Maine. He and Liz spent many wonderful summers there, joined often by his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his two children, Martha Belyea and Dr. Charlie O’Neill and his four grandchildren, Margot Belyea, David Belyea, Travis O’Neill and Ansley O’Neill and his great grandson Jack Doyle.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life in January.
