Hilbert “Bert” David Helstrom, age 58, passed away in Houston, Texas on May 21, 2020. He was born on October 5, 1961 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Margaret Joyce (Jordan) and Lee Hilbert Helstrom. He resided in Pasadena, Texas with his lifetime love Rima Helstrom.

Bert may have been born in Tennessee, but he would call himself a Texan because he moved to Houston at age 3. He was a fun-loving child that participated in Boy Scouts, loved riding motorcycles and listening to country music. In 1980 he graduated from Scarborough High School of Houston ISD. He became a Certified Precision Machinist after attending ITT Technical Institute. He was always excited to talk about the space shuttle parts he produced. Later he became a skilled mechanic and entrepreneur. He was highly intelligent and creative. Bert loved woodworking, fishing, singing and playing the guitar.

Bert is preceded in death by his grandparents Jennie and Claude Jordan and Hilbert and Blanche Helstrom. He is survived by his mother and father, his partner in life Rima, step-children Karen Gonzalez (Dagoberto), John Paul Gilcrease (Nicole), and Stephanie Gilcrease, six step-grandchildren, and one great step grandchild, sisters Laurie Lee Hernandez and Lisa Holtin (Mark), three nieces, three nephews, many great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew.

I, like Tommy True, met Bert at Temple Oaks Baptist Church. My brother David was their same age, so of course little sister had to join in the "fun". I have fond memories of those days, going to the Thunderbird Drive-in, and just hanging out, sitting on the tailgate of a truck at Tommy's. Rest in Peace Bert. May God bring comfort and peace to the family.

I knew bert for around 44 years, he was always a real friend.we met at temple oaks baptist when we were about 13 yrs old. I also attended Scarborough jr, sr high with bert.we got into a lot of mischief as most rebellious teenagers do!we lived through it and kept in touch for years.he was my best friend in high school,I’ll miss him and I love him like a brother, we keep the family in prayer..................tommy
