Don was born January 29, 1948 to Ivan "Mack" and Elouise Jones in Visalia, CA and raised in Santa Rosa, CA. He was the first of four children. Don is preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Glen Jones, and sister, Linda Reece. All of them will always in our hearts and never forgotten.
Don started his young adult life serving in the United States Navy as Communications Yeoman 3rd Class. After the Navy, Don had a career as an EMT and Fire Chief with the Cotati Fire Department and later as a Patrol Deputy, a Field Training Officer, and Detective with Lake County Sheriff's Department. After retirement from the police force, Don spent his later years living happily in Fruitland, Idaho, owning a trucking business transporting produce during the summer months and enjoying his many friends. And during the cold winters of Idaho, Don preferred the warmer weather of Lucerne, CA, spending time with his parents, family and fishing on the Rogue River. Don had a passion for sailing, fishing, hunting, playing poker, and spending time with his family and friends. Don was a humble, honest, generous man, with a quick wit, who loved a good laugh and was never short on tales of adventure.
Don is survived by his children, Christopher Jones, Sara Jones Donis, both of Santa Rosa, CA, Casey Jones, six grandchildren, his sister Lee Tyree of Lucerne, CA, and many nieces and nephews. And we must include Jason "Friday" our 'honorary family member', who gave our Don many years of solid friendship and support like no other, up until the very end of Don's life. On behalf of the Jones family, we sincerely thank you for that Friday.
Don will be laid to rest next to his parents, brother and sister at our family's beautiful "Blodgett Cemetery" in Hamilton, Montana, overlooking the Bitterroot Valley.
Don's celebration of life was given at his 71st birthday party in January where he was able to spend the time with his family and many friends before his passing. He will be laid to rest in our family's beautiful Blodgett Cemetery, Hamilton, MT in Summer 2019.
