In Memory of Charlotte Rae Blackmon, Pearl, Mississippi
The family and friends of Charlotte Rae Blackmon are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on February 17, 2021, at the age of 94. Charlotte was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to Florence Capel and George Schaefer on November 17, 1926. She was a homemaker who used to enjoy sewing, and working in her yard. Charlotte especially loved the time she spent with family. She met and married Lloyd Maxie Blackmon from Oma, Mississippi, when he was in the army in Kentucky. When he left to go overseas for the war, she moved in with his parents on the farm near Hazlehurst, Mississippi. After the war, Charlotte and “Blackie” lived in Harvey, Lake Charles, and Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised their three daughters, Pat, Rose, and Betty. They returned to Mississippi and settled in Pearl where her husband worked until retirement. Charlotte was a resident of Brandon Courts Retirement home at the time of her death. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hunt (LeRoy deceased) of Bogalusa, Louisiana, and Rose Broussard (Tony) of Carencro, Louisiana; her eight grandchildren, Stacey, Karen, Glynn, Michael, Tony Rae, Frank, Steven, and Cindy; her twelve great grandchildren, & her thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Capel and George Schaefer; her husband, Lloyd Blackmon; daughter, Betty Mabry; sister, Ethyl Mae; brother, Bennie Schaefer; and a son-in-law, LeRoy Hunt.
The family expresses special thanks to Jannie Taylor Reynolds for the love and care she gave to Charlotte in her home, and to the staff of Brandon Courts for the care she received there.
Baldwin Lee Funeral Home of Pearl is helping with the funeral arrangements. A memorial service is planned for later with her family in Louisiana.
