Cabell Watkins Coates III

PEKIN ~ Cabell Watkins Coates, III., 85, of Pekin, passed away at 7:44 p.m. Monday, September 6, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Born June 9, 1936 in Hopewell, Virginia to Cabell Watkins and Mason (Mumford) Coates,Jr., he married Ellen Jacobs on July 8, 1967 in Bartonville. She died March 18, 2018 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; two sisters, Brenda Smoak and Nancy Rhoad.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Clint) Ancelet of McPherson, Kansas and Carol Coates of Pekin and two grandchildren, Taylor Wood and Barrett Ancelet.

Cabell was a veteran of the United States Airforce serving from August, 1955 to November, 1975.

He worked for Storage Technology Corporation (STC) for 12 years, specializing in computer maintenance. He most recently he worked at Sam’s Club in sales, retiring in 2001 after 10 years. Cabell was a big sports fan, especially of The Washington Football Team and The University of South Carolina Gamecocks. He also was an American League Baseball fan, especially the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

There will be no services at this time. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

Sorry to hear this. Cabell was one if our drivers at Scherer Buick. Always enjoyed talking to him.
