Clarence E. Dean

Clarence Everett Dean passed away peacefully in his home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the age of 92.

Clarence was born to Homer Dean and Margaret (Weyman) Dean Adkins in Conneautville, Pennsylvania and was raised by Orville and Louise Huber of Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Clarence was married to Carol Ann (Owen) Dean (d.) on September 1, 1956 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Together they had four children: Jay, Barry (Wendy, d.), Carl and Sharon (Jeff Caldwell). He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: Colby, Chase, Chandler, Greg (Haley), Courtney and was recently blessed with a great grandson, Owen.

He is predeceased by his brother Royal and sisters Shirley and Marjaye. His cousin Paul Huber (Francie) of Meadville, PA, sister-in-law Pat Dean of Angola, IN and many cousins carry on his memory.

Following high school graduation, Clarence proudly served his country in the United States Army working in the motor pool. He was stationed in Germany for part of his Army career. After his honorable discharge, he initially attended Alliance College before receiving his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.

He enjoyed a long career in engineering that included positions at Westinghouse Electric (Greensburg, PA), Convair, Morton Thiokol (where he worked on Atlas), Combustion Engineering, Zurn and Rust Engineering. In retirement, he worked as a Realtor for several years. Clarence was an active member of Alabama Packards and the Southland Flywheelers. He enjoyed attending antique car and tractor shows as well as making old engines run.

A visitation for Clarence will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested via the Crawford Heritage Community Foundation to the Marjaye Marilyn Dean Memorial Fund, PO Box 933, Meadville PA 16335, which benefits the Crawford County Care Center in Meadville, Pennsylvania where his sister resided for many years.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Dean family.

I really enjoyed seeing Clarence and his son, Carl at our local car shows. I will miss him. My wife and I picked him up and he rode with us to a couple of our Rust Alumni Banquets. All the old timers really enjoyed visiting with him.
