Rita was a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo. She worked as a purchasing agent at Fullerton Union Schools District before helping to establish the Buena Park City Employee Credit Union in California. Later, she and her husband, Carlo, established a security business in southern California.
Rita was a member of the Buena Park Women's Club. She was a classically trained vocalist, and many people were blessed with her Italian culinary skills.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carlo Picogna; her parents, Samuel Provino and Adeline Tanner; two siblings, Peter Provino and Joseph Provino; and niece, Patricia Provino.
Rita is survived by her three children, Carla Picogna, Greg Picogna and spouse Nancy, and Mark Picogna and spouse Myrna; grandchildren, Jessica Gardner and spouse Nic, Katie Dvorak and spouse Jonathan, Laura Rodriguez and spouse Brian, Hayden Picogna, Karlee Picogna, and Kenny Picogna; along with 10 great-grandchildren; cousins, Albert and Arthur Picogna, David Caruana, and Nancy Ridge; and nephew, Matthew Provino.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. A Celebration of Rita Picogna's Life will be on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham, immediately followed by entombment at Southern Heritage Mausoleum.
