Robert Thrasher was the fourth child of Beulah and Eather Thrasher who soon would become the baby of the family. To his parents and siblings he could do no wrong.
At the age of 20, he married Louise, the love of his life. After his service in the army he began a career in the printing business. He began and ended this career at Roberts & Sons Printing Company. Starting at the bottom learning to run a printing press and evolving into a top salesman calling on county government and courthouse customers across Alabama. As a result, he knew the judges in most counties, which may have been beneficial from time to time.
The skill of running a press came in handy many years later when he and Louise joined a new developing church in Hoover called Shades Mountain Independent. He bought a small press and printed the weekly bulletin in the basement of his house for years. Every Saturday night, Robert printed and all 5 kids folded. A common theme of family activities continued throughout the years whether it was fishing, camping or a trip to the beach - it was always the whole gang. Family was the central focus of the Thrasher’s home.
Robert and Louise were married just shy of 70 years at the time of her passing. He would often say that they had led a blessed life. Their 5 children, grandchildren and great grand children were the joy of their life. The house was always bustling with people coming and going. Some would call this uncontrolled chaos - Robert and Louise would see a house full of love.
Robert leaves this world after an ongoing battle with cancer and other complications. Many of us would say he died of a broken heart. At the end, he longed to be with his wife while struggling with the thought of leaving his kids behind. In the end he left peacefully and content that he had done his job raising us well. His legacy continues on through the generations that follow him.
His final request to his kids was simple. “Our family was born out of love, continue to be a family, see each other and grow this family together. Remember your Mother and I with a smile instead of a tear”. He was the ultimate Dad until the end.
His parents Beulah and Eather Thrasher preceded Robert in death along with his siblings Hershel, Talmadge, Minnie Lea and his wife, Louise Thrasher.
