Edith Hortense McVey
March 1, 1928 – March 14, 2021
Our beloved mother, Edith McVey passed away on March 14, 2021, after an extended illness. She was born in Baldwyn, Mississippi. There she met another Baldwyn native, Jacque McVey, whom she married. They moved to Pensacola, Florida to live and raise a family where they were happily married for 68 years. Her husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Edith Wiltz and Jackie Smith. Grandchildren, Sherry McDuffie, Penny Welborn, and Wendy Meredith and five great-grandchildren (Hannah, Carver, Dylan, Jack and Joseph.)
She was a long-standing member of Brownsville Baptist Church (now known as New Beginnings Baptist Church). She was best known there for her love and kindness and her chicken and dressing. The dressing was a favorite at church suppers.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 N. New Warrington Road. There will be no visitation due to COVID restrictions. There will be a prayer at the graveside at Barrancas National Cemetery on Pensacola Naval Air Station Friday, March 19, 2021 at 9:00 AM.
