A native of Pensacola, Van was born on April 8, 1933 to her parents
Chester and Nellie Griffin. A 1951 graduate of Pensacola High School, she attended Florida State
University receiving a degree in Education. Soon after graduation, she married James Holt; a
marriage that lasted 64 wonderful years until his death. Van was a loving, selfless, and devoted
mother to her three children Mary Lu, Jimmy, and Ginny. She was instantly loved by anyone
who knew her and always greeted everyone with joy, happiness and a sense of being. She
simply never met a stranger and was a true friend to all. We will miss the sparkle in her eyes,
the beautiful smile on her face and the radiant love in her heart that she shared with all that
knew her.
Van is preceded in death by her loving husband James Holt. She is survived by her
three Children: daughters Mary Lu Scott (Dennis), Ginny Lawrence (Bud) and her son Jimmy
Holt (Jan), 3 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, friends of Van may make contributions to the ASPCA, a cause she truly believed in, or her beloved church, St Christopher’s Episcopal.
