Belle graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport, LA and entered Tri State Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1944 and worked in surrounding hospitals in various fields. She met Ralph Buckley in 1946 and was married to him for 52 years. Major Buckley (USAF, Retired) preceded Belle in death.
Belle had a very full and interesting life. She was a close friend of fellow nurse Virginia Clinton (Bill’s mom). Belle and her good friend Betty Pullum (dec.) went on an African safari and had an amazing trip and great experience. Belle had an active life and enjoyed every minute of it.
Another great experience was with a great friend and fellow nurse Verlon Eleazar. They went on an English garden tour which was beautiful and visited England, France, Spain and Holland. A very happy experience. Her love of flowers and gardening enticed her to co-form the Navarre Garden Club in 1975. She was a charter member and past president of her club and life member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. Belle also figured prominently in the early development of the Navarre Library.
Belle is survived by her son Rick who has been her close caregiver; a niece Michelle and Tim Moriarty of Houston, TX, and nephews Edgar Burks and wife Iva of Port Angeles, WA and Bud Hatcher and wife Sara of Waskom, TX and three nephews and their families in Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her wonderful friend Monica Kahn and her extended family of four granddaughters and eight great grandchildren as well as her close and cherished friends Gloria and Tom Mack of Navarre.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Navarre Presbyterian Church. Belle will be buried with her husband privately in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
