Obituary of Jose Lavalle Golen
Jose L. Golen, age 91, of Garland, Texas (formerly of Pensacola, Florida) passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was born to Catalino Golen and Antiquiana Lavalle on September 18, 1930 in Surigao, Philippines. Jose graduated from high school and joined the US Navy to see the world. After a few years, he married Estelita V. Golen on September 27, 1959 and were together for 60 years. During his 20 year service he earned the following awards and decorations: National Defense Service Medal (Korea), Korean Service Medal, China Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (4). After his retirement, Jose (often called “Joe”) and Estelita raised their three children in Pensacola Florida. He loved fishing, gardening, yard work, sweets, going to the Casinos and was a lifetime member of the Filipino-American (Fil-Am) Association of Pensacola. He is preceded in death by his parents Antiquiana Lavalle & Catalino Golen; his wife Estelita V. Golen; his sisters Rosario Duluen, Rosita Golen and brother Roberto Golen. He is survived by his children, Luz Villorante Pitre, Virginia (James) Golen Sweet and Ramon (Elouisa) Jose Golen; his grandchildren Anya (Brittany Garcia) Pitre, Alexander Pitre, Gabrielle Golen, McKenna Golen, James Sweet Junior; his brothers and sisters, Paz Caharop, Florencia Martin, Pacita Golen Santiago, Rufina Denolo, Rafael Golen, Rodolfo Golen, Rosita Oliva, several nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grand nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Graveside Service to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
