He is survived by his loving wife Susan Carr Haveard, his two children: Steven Ashley Haveard (wife Allison Haveard) and Charity Amanda Bailey (husband Charles Eric Bailey), and 11 grandchildren: Elijah, Audrey, Lily, Keila, Noelle, Abigail, Isabella, Trey, Braxton, Amiyah and Ameliah. Additionally, he is survived by his brother William Haveard, and sisters Lois Bates (husband James Bates) and Vicky Hayes (husband Brian Hayes). He is predeceased by his parents James Albert Haveard and Lois Sellers Haveard and his brother James Albert Haveard Jr.
Steven Haveard, more commonly referred to by friends and family as "Steve", was born to James and Lois Haveard on February 21, 1958. On October 15, 1976, Steve married the love of his life, Susan, shortly after she graduated from high school.
Steve was a hard worker who was determined to provide for his family. From 1976 until 1985, Steve served in the Army Reserve. However, for most of Steve’s career, he held management-level positions. He worked for CSX railroad in the transportation department before becoming a manager for K&B Drugs. After transitioning to managing a pool company, he returned to railroading and served as a Regional Safety Director and Safety Consultant until he retired.
Steve was a large man with a large personality. He towered over everyone else in a room and was sure to be cracking jokes with someone because he was always ready to have some fun. He especially enjoyed golfing and fishing with friends and family.
Regardless of meeting him for a moment or knowing him for years, everyone knew Steve loved a challenge. He was always eager to jump in and fix things. Need to get your organization's safety rating up or profit margins improved? He was your man. Car making a weird noise? Call Steve! Got a building project? Yep, he was there with his tools. Is Mom too frail to live alone? Steve will move in to help. In "A" school learning electrical engineering and the mathematical formulas just don't make sense? Uncle Steve would stay up all night with you working out problems so you could ace your test.
With these examples of his servant's heart, it is no surprise to learn that Steve Haveard was also a devoted man of God. He served as pastor of Troy Revival Center and Clearview Church and also served in several outreach ministries focused on homeless shelters and prison ministries. But perhaps the biggest impact Steve had was the day-in, day-out "marketplace ministry" he served in his entire life. He shared God's Word and God's wisdom. He truly came alongside and bore other's burdens - whether by lending an ear or lending a hand - he was always ready to help, to serve, to tangibly show the love of God to everyone he encountered.
No matter when you called him or what you called him (Steve, Dad, Granddaddy, Uncle Dave, or S.A.), he always had your back. Rest easy, Steve, you deserve it.
A visitation for Steven will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534, followed by a funeral service with committal prayer from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Randy Hamil officiating.
Steven will be laid to rest in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
