June Kepner Luckmann, long-time resident of Champaign, Illinois, on February 24, 2021 went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 91 years old and had been living in Peoria, Illinois at the time of her death.
Violet June was born March 12, 1929 to Elden Clare and Ruth Pearl (Martin) Myers at Grand Forks, North Dakota. Later, the family moved to Polo, Illinois, where both parents tragically died: Ruth in 1939 and Elden in 1941. At the age of 12, June went to live with Charles Erastus and Kathryn (Nelson) Kepner in Rochelle, Illinois. While there, Violet legally changed her name to June Myers Kepner.
She attended Colorado Women’s College, in Denver, Colorado from 1947-49. She met William “Bill” Henry Luckmann during the summer of 1949. They were married November 26, 1949 in Rochelle, Illinois and celebrated 71 years of marriage together. Bill died ten days before June, on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2021.
June loved expanding her horizons. She returned to college in 1972 at the University of Illinois and in 1978 earned her B.S. in Interior Design. In 1980, June took a 26-day Outward Bound course at the Canadian Outward Bound Wilderness School in Northwest Ontario, where she made many friends and learned how to rock climb at the age of 51.
After Bill retired in 1984, they spent 25 years exploring the National Parks with many camping and Elderhostel adventures. They both loved the outdoors and passed this on to their children.
June was preceded in death by five siblings and her husband, Bill. Her faith in Jesus sustained her and was the guiding light in her life.
Surviving are a sister and brother: Doris (William) Myers Witzke of Modesto, California; and Ralph (Lorraine) Myers Warner of Broadway, Virginia; and five children: Charles (Susan Specter) Luckmann, Bellingham, WA; Nancy (Curtis) Glass), Orr, MN; Jill (Robert) Musselman, Toulon, IL; Carol (Mark) Parrish, Monmouth, IL; and John (Rebecca), Luckmann, Columbus, IN; and 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
