Peoria – Marvin B. Axelrod, 83, of Peoria, IL and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Riverview Care Center in East Peoria. Marvin was born July 27, 1929 in Peoria, IL to Leo and Ethel Weiss Axelrod.

Surviving is his sister Ravella Singer of Oceanside, CA, brother Lionel Axelrod of Ft. Myers, FL, nephews; Steve (Linda) Axelrod of East Peoria, IL, and Gary Axelrod of Peoria, IL, nieces; Lynne Galli of California, and Trudy (Lendel) Burkey of Goshen, IN.

Marvin was the owner and president of Aluma Wal Inc. in Peoria, IL. He owned and operated the business for 24 years before retiring in 1984. Marvin was a graduate of Peoria Manual Training High School and the University of Illinois Urbana where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He was a member of Agudas Achim Synagogue and Lakeview Museum.

Graveside service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Peoria Hebrew Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peoria Hebrew Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 6839 N. Fox Point Dr. Peoria, IL 61614 or the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Online tributes and condolences may be made at

Marvin is the reason I spent so many great years in Puerto Vallarta. Even buying a condo there. I told him one day I was going on a months vacation and he said why don't you go to Mexico. I had never been, but went and fell in love with it. We even shared housing there for a few seasons. He will be missed.
