She was born in Peoria on June 18, 1939, to Shadrich and Dora (Walker) Brown. She married Floyd March in Peoria on July 17, 1976. He survives, along with five children, Dennis (Myra) Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC, and Darryl Wilson, Valerie Wilson, Wenoke March and Nicholas M. March, all of Peoria; one sister, Juanita Willis of Bolingbrook, IL; a special friend of the family, Destiny Humphrey of Peoria; numerous grandchildren, including Tiffany Thomas and Devena Collins, both of Peoria; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Peoria. She had retired from Caterpillar in 1997 as an Imaging Clerk, after 30 years of service. She had also been an Avon Representative for over 30 years. Nellie earned an Associate Degree in Hospitality and Travel from Midstate College. She was an independent travel agent for over 10 years. She was an original member of the Prime Rib Players of Peoria. She enjoyed traveling and was a valued member of the Young-Brown-Petty Family Reunion Committee.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 305 South Madison Park Terrace, Peoria, with the Rev. Alphonso Lyons officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Entombment will be in Springdale Mausoleum in Peoria.
