Wallace Robert Kuester

Wallace Robert Kuester, 94, of Peoria passed away at 8:43 am Saturday, September 10, 2016 at OSF Richard L Owens Hospice Home with his family at his side. He was born June 5, 1922 in Melvin, Iowa the son of Louis and Ida Steuck Kuester. He married Lillian Ford on November 18, 1945. She preceded him in death in October of 2003. Wallace is survived by his children, Gerald (Carol) Kuester of Edelstein, Judith (Michael) Ritchie of Dunlap, Gail Soddy of Dunlap, and Barbara (Kirk) Perry of Metamora; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Skinner, of Oakville, IN who will be 100 years young in November. He is also preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, and two sisters. Our Dad was a depression era survivor. He joined the Army/ Air Corp and flew in a B-17 as a radio operator in 1942. As part of the 385th bomber group 551st squadron he was shot down over France and became a POW. But his troubles were just beginning, he got married in 1945. He then intensified that with four children. He became a carpenter and then started a home building business and proceeded to create a wonderful life. He was very involved at St Paul Lutheran Church and incorporated the teachings of Christ in his life and loves. We want to thank all the hundreds of family, friends and acquaintances that shared their lives and time living, laughing and loving over the 94 years he entertained us all. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Richard L Owens for their wonderful care of their father. Funeral service will be at 11am Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peoria. Rev. William Dohle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel and an hour prior to services. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of cremains at Parkview Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
