Passed away peacefully in her 77th year on January 11, 2024 at the P.R.H.C. Palliative Care Unit with husband of fifty years, Norman, at her side. Jane worked during her later years in the accounting firm of Orbell, Howden & Norris, LLP. Jane was happiest in the private sanctuary of her home where she cheered for her beloved Blue Jays, listened to traditional country music and watched her animal shows on TV, always accompanied by and survived by her loving tabbies, Simon and Garfield.
In earlier years, Jane and Norm travelled to Nashville each year and attended the Grand Ole Opry and Opryland, U.S.A. Many cruises were taken, always on the Holland America Line to destinations including the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and the Mediterranean. The countries of Europe were toured through Insight Bus Lines, including visits to Turkey, Italy, Israel, Egypt, France and the United Kingdom.
In 2001, Jane and Norm purchased a three and one-half acre lot on the granite north shore of Lower Buckhorn Lake at Gallery on the Lake, Buckhorn. There a Linwood dream home was built, to the delight of Jane’s love of the peace and tranquility of the lake. Jane and Norm returned to the condominiums at Summit Place in 2014 to be closer to medical facilities, having lived at Summit Place previously from 1986 to 2001.
Jane is predeceased by her parents, George and Eileen Herrington; survived by brothers Jack Herrington (Mary), Rick Herrington and David Herrington (Judy); survived by many nephews and nieces as well as sisters in law Ruth Holden, Faith Smith and Marjorie Orbell.
Jane struggled with the progressive disease C.O.P.D. for many years as well as other significant illnesses. The family appreciates the loving and professional care of the local medical profession, including Dr. Zaniewski and his receptionist Jeanette, for many years, and more recently the Palliative Care Team of P.R.H.C., including Drs. Matheson and Hutchinson, and all of the nurses, including Sam and the Home Care Nursing Team of Saint Elizabeth, including Kristina.
As per Jane’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough. Memorial donations may be made to P.R.H.C. Palliative Care Unit or to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.comstockkaye.com for the family.
