Harry Kirkland Pruitt, 84 of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away Monday, May 10, 2021 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital. Graveside services with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will be held at 3:00 P.M. EDT, Thursday, May 13, 2021 in Lakeview Memory Gardens according to Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Pruitt was born April 12, 1937 in Carbon Hill, Alabama; son of the late Waltor Ogden Pruitt and Bernice Bratcher Pruitt. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Columbus State University as a sergeant in the Public Safety Office. He had a life long career in law enforcement. He was also a Master Mason and member of the Twin City NO. 76 OF F & AM of the Grand Lodge of Alabama.
Mr. Pruitt was an avid hiker, life member of the Pine Mountain Trail Association and a very passionate reader.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Dean Hagan and eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathryn Pruitt, Nancy Pruitt, Shelley Pruitt Hagan; his ex-wife and dear friend, Ophelia Pruitt, brother, Bill Pruitt, sister, Marie Pruitt Trull, grandson, J.D. Beasley and his faithful canine companion, "Poppy".
