Morris G Herring

Morris G. Herring, 90 of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Columbus Hospice House. A celebration of his life will be held 3:00 P.M. Wednesday January 29, 2014 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL with burial in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Honorary pall bearers are the deacons of Philadelphia Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mr. Herring was born April 11, 1923 in Salem, Alabama. He is the son of the late Joseph Glenn and Mary Bishop Herring. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was retired from Fieldcrest Mills with 42 years of service and was employed with Philadelphia Baptist Church for 22 years. He and his wife volunteered for the Mobile Meals of Phenix City for many years. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Jenkins Herring, brother, Rodger Herring, sisters, Hazel Shirah, Elva Murphy and son-in-law, Theodore W. Kern, Sr.

Survivors include his son, James Morris Herring (Karen) of Phenix City, AL, daughters, Sherer Herring Kern of Phenix City, AL, Stephanie Herring Pinto of Atlanta, GA, sister, Norma Hill of Columbus, GA, uncle, Millard B. Herring (Doris) of Opelika, AL, grandchildren, Denise Herring Wilkes (Bill), Christopher Morris Herring (Melissa), Pamela Herring Eason, Jeffrey William Schrader (Mandi), Jennifer Schrader Dudley (Jason), great grandchildren, Bethany, Daniel and Rebekka Eason, Tamar Watts, Olivia Wilkes, Eden and Dade Herring, Laura and Nikolas Valentine, Dylan Dudley, Kip and Kohl Schrader, Corban Miller, numerous nieces, nephews, countless friends and devoted pets, Miss Kitty and Dottie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbus Hospice and the family wishes to express their appreciation and deepest gratitude for all of their love and care through the years.
