James William Carter
July 16, 1950 – September 12, 2020
One of Packer Nation’s biggest fans will now be cheering for his favorite team from the ultimate skybox. On 9/12/2020 James William “Jimmy” Carter passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness. He was born on 7/16/1950 to William and Nellie Carter in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was raised in Clarksburg surrounded by the love and guidance of a large extended family.
In 1968, Jimmy graduated from Washington Irving High School where he played football. He then attended Fairmont State College and West Virginia University. In 1974, Jimmy moved to Arizona where he enjoyed fishing, hiking, playing his guitar, and camping. He was a custom home builder throughout Arizona, taking pride in his craftsmanship and attention to detail. In 2002, Jimmy took the matrimonial plunge with Julie Denman. Together they began new adventures, fishing in Belize, annual trips to Lambeau, NASCAR venues, and fishing jaunts throughout Arizona.
The many friends who crossed paths with Jimmy will remember his infectious laugh, his larger than life personality, and his heart that was larger than he. Above all, Jimmy was always so proud of his West Virginia roots. He is survived by his wife, his beloved West Virginia family of aunts and uncles, many cousins, and a sister.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10AM on 10/15/2020 at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney, 4310 E. Southern Ave, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jimmy’s name to Phoenix Rescue Mission or St. Mary’s Food Bank.
