Marion Pershing, wife of Ronald Pershing passed away on November 19, 2020 at 8:04 p.m. She was born on January 17, 1937 at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Arthur Ninke and Claudia (Wagner) Ninke and was named Marion Arlene Ninke. The family moved several times during her childhood. She attended some high school in Aurora, Illinois, but graduated high school from Lutheran High School in St. Louis, MO.
In 1954, they moved to Waco, TX and she attended Baylor University for a year. She left Texas and returned to Chicago and began work in the mail room at Standard Oil. She then moved to Los Angeles and began office work. She took classes to learn shorthand and typing, and became a secretary for Doris Day for about two years. During that time she legally changed her name to Marion Ninke Norman in 1972. She moved to Phoenix in 1974 and worked and attended Arizona State University. She received her BA in accounting from ASU, got her CPA certification and started working in accounting later starting her own accounting firm. She sold the firm in 1990 and began working for the Arizona Department of Transportation.
She married Ronald Pershing on May 5, 2001 and her name became Marion Arlene Pershing. She retired from ADOT in August 2002. She enjoyed playing golf but her back became an issue in later years. Her passion became the Women’s Bible Study and prayer group. She is survived by her husband, one sister, one brother and several nieces and nephews as well as Ron’s two daughters, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
